Department’s Brief History:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has taken its place in the core structure as one of the first 9 departments of the Faculty established with the decision of the establishment of Bursa University Faculty of Medicine. Bursa University was renamed Uludag University in 1983 by the Law on the Organization of Higher Educational Institutions No. 2809. Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology , was established in 1972, the year of foundation of Bursa University Faculty of Medicine. Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has been start activities in 1973 when Associate Professor doctor Suat Kıyan appointment from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine after that the Research Assistants were Dr. Şakir Küçükkömürcü, Serpil Sarıgöl and Bediz Tor with the participation.

There are 7 Faculty members: Prof. Dr. Gurkan Uncu, Prof.  Dr. Kemal Özerkan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Çetinkaya Demir, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Işıl Kasapoğlu, Assoc.Prof Dr. Adnan Orhan, Assoc. Prof Dr. Yakup Yalçın and Assistant Prof. Dr. Kiper Aslan in our department. 26 specialized students continue their education

Since its inception, more than 5000 students of the medical faculty and more than 100 obstetricians and gynecologists have been trained. The department organizes large-scale meetings on a national scale every year, including the ’National Obstetrics and Gynecology Winter Congress‘ and the ’Minimally Invasive Gynecology Symposium'. Within the framework of today's information and knowledge in the field of Medicine in the world that can be done in a manner similar to the gynecology department within the advanced applications, advanced oncology, oncologic laparoscopic method, minimally invasive laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, fertility preservation in cancer patients for the purpose of sperm and ovarian tissue freezing, management of high risk pregnancies, prenatal diagnosis and treatment procedures is implemented in a successful way. The number of similar centers in our country, where all of these advanced treatments are applied within the scope of our department, is quite small.

In addition to educational and training activities, a high-quality medical service is provided with great dedication and without interruption. An average of 30,000 outpatient clinic examinations are performed annually, an average of 2,700 hospitalization treatments, 1900 gynecological surgeries and cesarean section surgeries, 1200 vaginal births are performed. In the IVF Center, an average of 1000 couples who cannot have children are treated annually, and IVF treatment is performed.

Location and Infrastructure:

Our department is located on the second floor of the hospital as an Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, which includes faculty rooms and an outpatient unit, a maternity room, an IVF center and an inpatient department.
There are a total of 23 beds in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, including 20 standard beds and 3 day beds.
The maternity unit is located inside the clinic. There are 2 delivery rooms and 5 delivery follow-up beds in the maternity ward. About 1200 births are performed annually.
It was established within the scope of the BAP project with the support of the University and the Faculty of Medicine within the IVF Center in our Department. There are 4 day beds in Center.
 

Resident Training Process

Students of medical specialties are trained in our department. The educational program is organized in accordance with the National Curriculum. Specialized education in medicine is programmed to cover 4 years.
Seminars and literature meetings take place every day of the week. On Thursdays, a weekly or monthly statistics presentation takes place. On Thursday  English classes are held between 16 and 17 o'clock. At the end of the theoretical and surgical practical training that research assistants will receive in accordance with the regulation, it is aimed that they will prepare a dissertation based on scientific research and successfully defend their dissertations.
 

Research Areas and  ve Service Areas

The research areas of our Department, which also has a clinical service area, include perinatology, gynecological oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynecological endoscopic surgery, and research in the field of urogynecology. In addition, experimental and animal studies are also among the research and study topics.
