Department’s Brief History
"There is great difference between establishing a department and working in a department whych was already established. As time goes on, people evaluate these differences by observing them over the years, in oneself and in other people, in people who join the clinic afterwards."
The owner of the previous paragraph, Prof. Dr. Bilgen Taneli, established the Psychiatryr department with his wife Prof. Dr. Suna Taneli on 24 January 1976 when he started to work at the university .Psychiatric services were first given to the Chest Diseases Hospital in Kirazliyayla, Bursa until May 6, 1992. After this date, psychiatric outpatients clinic and inpatient clinic provide a service at current location . After the retirement of Prof. Dr. Bilgen TANELİ, Prof. Dr. Selçuk KIRLI has become the head of the Psychiatry Department. After that Prof. Dr. Cengiz Akkaya was the head of the department, which was held in October 2018 by Prof. Dr. Salih Saygın Eker.
Location and Infrastructure
In our department, there are 3 general outpatients clinics, a mood disorders outpatient and a psychotic disorders outpatient clinics. There are 12 patient rooms wiith two patient capacity and one close observation room in our clinic.
Resident Training Process
Residency training process for psychiatry takes four years. First year residents after 1 month orientation programme assigned in clinic for 20 months. Clinical rotations include outpatient clinic, Forensic Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. Residency programme involves Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry rotations. Basic psychiatry seminars held by Clinical Professors. Each resident organize a seminar once or twice with participation and contribution of Proffessors. These seminaries are held by every Wednesday with the participation of residents. Forensic psychiatry meetings setting up each Thursday. Graduation thesis study processed by concerning thesis advisor.Thesis study should be conclude in given time.
Research Areas and ve Service Areas
In our clinic we are dealing with psychotic disorders, mood disorders, consultation and liason psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, Alcohol and drug dependency.
