PRECLINICAL (BASIC CURRICULUM) TERM
First semester: In this semester, basic knowledge about cell is introduced to students. The program is also accompained with introduction to basic concepts that would prepare to anatomy , organic chemistry and computer usage learning courses. In this semester, all students participate in class courses and attend practical laboratory studies in small groups. The obligatory courses in this semester provide 13-credit hours per week. Each student is also required to take 2-credit hour courses (other than the above mentioned obligatory courses) such as AİTT-1, Turkish and AİTT-2. The total credit of this semester reaches 17-credit hours per week. In this semester, student attandence to occupational skill laboratory courses, as an elective course, is strongly recommended. This course provides 1 credit. Additionally, students are required to take a 4 credit ccupational English course in this semester.
Second semester: The major aim of this semester is to intoduce students to basic knowledge about tissue. Additionally, this semester includes biochemistry and basic microbiology courses, and also comprises of informations for students about patient-doctor relationships and psychological and social concepts which are required during their whole life. A practical biostatistics course also takes place in this semester. All students participate in class courses and attend practical laboratory studies in small groups. The obligatory courses in this semester provide 15-credit hours per a week. Each student is also required to take 2-credit courses (other than the above mentioned obligatory courses) such as AİTT-111 (Orientation of Atatürk) and Turkish. Total credits for this semester reaches 19-credit hours per week. In this semester, the attendance of students into occupational skill laboratory courses, as an elective course, is strongly recommended. This course provides 1 credit. Additionally, students will take occupational English course (4 credits) in this semester.
Third semester: The objectives of this semester are to provide students knowledge about general embriology and the anatomy of various body parts and to learn anatomy, histology and physiology of neurological system and of heart-circulation system in an integrated manner. All students participate in class courses and attend practical laboratory studies in small groups. The obligatory courses in this semester provide 18-credit hours per week. Starting from 2004-2005 education term, students will take occupational English course (2 credits) in this semester. Each student is required to take 5-credit elective courses in this semester.
Fourth semester: In this semester, anatomy, histology, physiology and biochemistry of metabolism, endocrine and urogenital system will be introduced to the students in an integrated manner. All students participate in class courses and attend practical laboratory studies in small groups. The obligatory courses in this semester provide 17-credit hours per week. Starting from 2004-2005 education term, students will take occupational English course (2 credits) in this semester. Each student has to take 5-credit occupational elective courses in this semester.
Fifth semester: This semester includes basic pathological concepts such as cell injury, inflammation and neoplasies; pathology, pharmacology and clinical features of various infectious diseases, cardio-vascular, respiratory and endocrine system diseases. In addition, students gain informations about preventive medicine services and regional studies. All students participate in class courses and attend practical laboratory studies in small groups. The obligatory courses in this semester provide 19-credit hours per week. Starting from 2005-2006 education term, students will take occupational English course (2 credits) in this semester. Each student has to take 5-credit occupational elective courses in this semester.
Sixth semester: This semester includes pathology, pharmacology and clinical features of gastrointestinal, urogenital, haematopoetic, nerve and muscle system diseases in an integrated manner. All students participate in class courses and attend practical laboratory studies in small groups. The obligatory courses in this semester provide 19-credit hours per week. In this semester, attendance of students into occupational skill laboratory courses where students will practice special examination methods (as an elective course), is strongly recommended. Students who attend occupational skill courses has to take 4-credit occupational elective course, whereas other students who do not take occupational skill courses must receive 5-credit occupational elective courses. Additionally, starting from.2005-2006 education term , students will take occupational English course (2 credits) in this semester.
