OBJECTIVES OF BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAMME
OBJECTIVES OF BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAMME:
Knowledge, skills and behaviors aimed to be acquired at the end of the medical education:
A) THE BODY OF KNOWLEDGE AIMED TO BE LEARNED, ACQUIRED, QUESTIONED AND APPLIED:
1) To understand the normal structure and functions of body and organ systems.
2) To know, recognize and define the cellular, biochemical and molecular mechanisms that organize the homeostasis.
3) To define the causes of illnesses (genetic, developmental, metabolic, toxic, microbiological, autoimmune, neoplastic, degenerative, traumatic, etc.) and also to define the effects of them (pathogenesis).
4) To define the structural and functional changes of body and organ systems in various illnesses (pathology and physiopathology).
5) To recognize economical, psychological, social and cultural factors.
6) To define the epidemiology of illnesses occurring frequently in the society and approaches aiming to decrease the frequency of these illnesses.
7) To put into order and analyze the most frequently encountered clinical, laboratory, radiological and pathological findings of illnesses occurring frequently in the society.
8) To put into order and select the methods based on scientific research and that are highly effective in the treatment of the most frequently encountered illnesses.
9) To solve clinical problems by deductive analysis.
10) To recognize the life hreatening illnesses and apply appropriate urgent treatment when needed.
11) To provide, organize and know the finance of health services. To know and apply the lawful rules of doctorate practice.
12) To know the ethic concepts and principles of the art of doctorate and to make decisions on ethic problems which can occur particularly during birth and death cases..
13) To determine the factors that can cause people become face to face with risks that make people sick or physically disabled and to determine these individuals under risk prior or at the early stages of the illness and to take necessary actions.
B) MOTIONAL SKILLS AIMED TO BE ACQUIRED:
1) To get detailed and reliable anemones.
2) To perform physical examination accurately and indetail.
3) To make medical attempts frequently used in diagnosis and treatment (to enter into artery, to place intravenous catheter, toracosynthesis, lomber punction, to place nasogastric probe, to place urine probe, to stitch cuts, etc.)
C) PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDES AIMED TO BE ACQUIRED:
1) To understand and consider the strength of science in causes, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.
2) To show respect towards human and patient rights, to consider principle of secrecy of patient information as an attitude.
3) To be kind, honest and reliable in the communication between doctor and patient.
4) To display true, honest and consistent in the communications with the families of patients, colleagues and other individuals throughout their professional lives.
5) To regard patients' benefits superior to their benefits.
6) To carry the responsibility of cooperating with the other people in different professions, official and private health institutions and other institutions related to the subject in order to take care of the health of society and individuals.
7) To make written and verbal communication in an effective way with patients and their families, colleagues and other related people.
8) To be in an ethic approach in the condition of a fatal illness.
9) To make an effort in providing care for patients with low socio-economic levels who cannot pay their fee and health services.
10) To learn ways to obtain information to meet the needs of scientific and technological developments, changes in professional practice and society.
11) To understand and assimilate the importance of lifelong self-learning. At the end of the medical education, it is assumed that these target behaviours towards these objectives to be acquired by the medical doctor.
