Vision of the Faculty
Through realising medical education compatible with the international standards, producing knowledge which could contribute to the universal health problems, ever-growing, providing benefits through finding contemporary solutions to the national and universal health problems, training physicians, and being a distinguished faculty which is exemplary with its produced knowledge and services and being proud of its member.
Main Aim of the Faculty
The primary aim of Uludağ University is to educate and train physicians who are equipped with the contemporary knowledge and skills, have advanced research and problem-solving ability; have a cultural richness and communication skills; are aware of the health problems in Turkey and equipped with the knowledge, have skills and attitude on how to deal with the problems in primary care; carry out their profession in light of ethical rules; constantly improve themselves and substantially use health technologies.
In our Faculty, the period of study is 6 years in total, and a mandatory Foreign Language Programme is implemented. Students who pass the English proficiency examination, which is conducted before the academic year, have a right to enrol for the first grade in the Faculty of Medicine. Students who fail in proficiency examination must have the English preparation classes. The students who fail in the English preparation class take the preparation class again. If students fail for two years in a row, they are enrolled for the first grade in the Faculty of Medicine; however, they have to pass the Foreign Language Proficiency Test to take elective Medical English courses in the department. Our students take preclinical period fundamental medical knowledge in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th years. In 5th, 6th and 7th years, students are provided with medical practical training on patients in the hospital at Uludağ University.
In total, 248 young faculty members who have increasing international connections and keep up with the latest innovations work in the faculty. One faculty member is available for every 5,9 students, which complies with the international standards. Faculty members take training programmes to enhance their skills.
137 Professors, 82 Associate Professors, 29 Assistant Professors and 70 Specialists work in our faculty in light of statistics in 2008. The number of Research Assistant is 532. Since the foundation of the faculty, 5,536 doctors have graduated from Faculty of Medicine. Each year around 209 students have enrolled for the last five years, and 213 students graduate from Faculty of Medicine every year.
Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine is equipped with sophisticated technology, and practical training has been carried out. The hospital has approximately 741 beds. Hospital of Faculty of Medicine is one of the two hospitals which have accreditation in Turkey. All of the units in the faculty have been accredited by JCI. Moreover, our hospital has received ISO 9001-2000 Quality Award. Patients are provided with the thermal spring services where Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation are present with beds in the historical buildings in Kükürtlü. For the last year medical students, the faculty provides primary care medical applications in 9 different medical centres which are in the form of community health centre in the city centre.
Our faculty has adopted credit system in its education since 2001-2002 academic year, and students’ successes in all institutional exams are evaluated by means of relative evaluation system.
Students carry out medical applications on human models in vocational skills laboratories before the students carry out medical applications on humans. Our faculty has laboratories where basic medical applications are carried out. Institutional education has been provided with 3 lecture theatres and more than 30 small classes. Almost all of the lecture theatres and classrooms have technological equipment such as internet connected computer, barcovision and sound system.
In addition to the central library on our campus, there is a library and reading room in the hospital building. Library is rich in terms of resources and materials, and the library has 10,483 books. Our library subscribes to 117 international journals and 160 national journals. Our students can reach full-texts in 23,000 journals and 34,000 online books via internet network through online library.
Our faculty was assessed by the World Federation for Medical Education in October 2002, and became highly successful as an educational organisation providing education compatible with international standards. Similarly, our faculty became successful in the European Institutional Evaluation Process in 2003.
